Pure North American pine rosin for makers, artists, woodworkers and traditional craft applications.
Also known as gum rosin or colophony, pine rosin is a versatile natural tree resin valued for its tack, hardness and ability to blend with waxes and oils. It is commonly incorporated into beeswax-wrap mixtures, encaustic art mediums, wood finishes, varnishes, sealants and traditional adhesive formulations.
Available by the pound for small projects or in a 40 lb box for studios, production businesses and bulk users.
Pine rosin (colophony) is a pine-derived resin used to modify tack and hardness in formulated blends. Paraffin is a petroleum-derived wax used as a wax base, including in candle and wood-dipping formulations. They serve different roles: pure rosin is not paraffin wax or a ready-made candle blend. Do not substitute one for the other at the same ratio without reformulating and testing.
Rosin is used for tack and hardness in wax-based coatings and other craft blends. The amount can change how the cooled mixture feels and looks. Wood-dipping recipes and candle-dipping recipes are different applications; a formula for treating wooden hive boxes is not a candle recipe.
There is no universal ratio. As application-specific examples, published beeswax-wrap recipes include 4 parts beeswax to 1 part resin, with oil specified separately; one supplier's wooden-hive dipping recipe uses 3 parts paraffin to 1 part rosin. These are examples from different recipes, not tested instructions for this product or interchangeable formulas. Follow a complete formulation for your exact use, confirm whether its parts are measured by weight or volume, and trial a small batch before scaling up.
This listing does not provide a tested candle-use percentage. Do not carry over ratios from wraps, wood coatings or dipping tanks into candles, or assume a natural pine aroma makes rosin a candle fragrance. Obtain application-specific guidance and validate the complete wax, additive and wick combination before use or sale.
Confirm that your recipe calls for pine rosin/colophony rather than another resin or wax. Check the required grade, material documentation, ingredient compatibility, processing instructions and intended end use. Assess cooled samples for tack, hardness, flexibility and appearance as relevant to your project. A listed craft application does not establish food-contact, skin-use or candle suitability for your finished formula.
